Some things in fitness are downright spooky, and I’m not talking about haunted treadmills or gym ghosts. I’m talking about the myths, misinformation, and questionable advice that keep people stuck, frustrated, or even injured.

Haunted Halloween Cue Fitness and Pilates

So today, we’re having a little fun with it. Here are 31 truly scary things in the health and fitness industry—because sometimes the real horror stories happen under fluorescent lighting and motivational wall decals.

31 Scary Things in Health & Fitness

  1. Expecting results after two weeks

  2. Only working out once or twice a week and calling it “consistency”

  3. Thinking you can eat more just because you started exercising

  4. Believing a pill or drug can replace healthy habits

  5. Expecting to “bounce back” immediately postpartum

  6. Not eating vegetables (yes, that includes fries)

  7. Using supplements instead of eating real food

  8. Thinking lifting weights will make you “bulky”

  9. Believing 3-pound dumbbells are enough for life

  14. Moving in only one plane of direction

  15. Never moving your spine in flexion, extension, or side bending

  16. Skipping direct core work

  17. Neglecting fascial release (foam rollers exist for a reason!)

  18. Never stretching

  19. Repeatedly stretching the same “tight” muscle without any relief

  20. Not being able to connect to certain muscles (I’m talking to you, glutes)

  21. Skipping rehab after surgery

  23. Neglecting your pelvic floor

  24. Avoiding exercise during pregnancy

  25. Working with a trainer who doesn’t listen to you

  26. Working with a trainer who pushes you too hard

  27. Working with a trainer who pretends to know everything

  28. Working with a trainer who trains pregnant or postpartum women without proper education

  29. A doctor saying “never do that movement” without understanding your goals or mechanics

  30. Holding your breath during exercise

  31. Believing progress only counts when it’s visible

Don’t Let Fitness Myths Scare You

As Theodore Roosevelt said:

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

Don’t let all the noise, trends, or “shoulds” in the fitness world intimidate you. The truth is, consistency beats perfection every single time.

Focus on showing up, listening to your body, and finding what feels right for you. That’s where lasting change really happens—no tricks required.

A Little Fun Never Hurt Anyone

One of my favorite things about being in the studio is when clients bring a bit of personality (and humor) to their workouts. Whether that means themed gear, bright colors, or just good energy... it makes training feel like play.

Fitness doesn’t have to be serious all the time. In fact, it shouldn’t be. Movement should be something you look forward to, not something you fear. And if you ever need proof that strength and fun can go hand-in-hand, just remember my client Keren, who once showed up for her session fully dressed as Rosie the Riveter. She crushed her workout, costume and all.

if you’re ready to trade fear for confidence, movement for joy, and confusion for clarity, book your next session book your next session and let’s keep building strength that lasts.
